
Vermont Uses Second Half Burst to Run Away from Women's Lacrosse, 16-4

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Trailing 8-3 with 6:09 remaining in the first half, the Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team had some life but the Catamounts rode an 8-1 run for the remainder of play and walked away with the 16-4 victory from Virtue Field on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Pioneers to 0-3 on the season while Vermont jumps up to 3-1.

First Half (9-3 UVM)
- Vermont came out firing on all cylinders, scoring six consecutive goals to take a commanding 6-0 lead with less than 12 minutes expired in the contest
- The Pioneers responded, scoring three of the next five goals, to cut the gap to 8-3
- Lydia Werlau picked up a pair of goals in the scoring run for SHU while Hanna Wise took a feed from Caroline Wax and scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season
- Freshman goalkeeper Shana Hecht made seven of her 12 saves in the first half alone while limiting Vermont to just a 2-for-5 showing on free position attempts in the opening 30 minutes
Second Half (16-4 UVM)
- Vermont scored the first four goals of the second half to build a 10-goal advantage just over five minutes into the half to seal the win
- Werlau scored off a free position for the second time on the afternoon to complete her hat trick
NOTES
- After her three-goal showing this afternoon, Werlau (four goals, one assist) is now tied with Wise (five goals) for the team-lead with five points
- Wax dished out her first career assist on Wise's first half goal
- Hecht is building quite the resume in her rookie season as she tallied 12 saves for her second double digit save total through three games in 2019
- Hecht added a team-high four ground balls
- Sophomore Anna Mesham provided a nice spark with five draw controls, easily setting a new career-high as she accounted for five of the nine total draw control wins on the day for SHU
- Wax and Olivia Mittleman tied for the team-lead with two caused turnovers
- Vermont doubled up SHU in shots 36-18 and won the draw control battle 12-9

SHU has the benefit of a week to prepare for its next game on Saturday, March 9 at Manhattan. The game is set to begin at 3:30 PM.
