
Women's Lacrosse Drops 11-4 Decision at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – With the wind gusting all afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday afternoon, goals were hard to come by for the Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team in a 11-4 loss at Hofstra. The Pioneers drop to 1-7 on the season with the defeat while the Pride improve to 6-3.

First Half (6-2 HOF)
- In a game largely controlled by the Pride, the Pioneers were able to score first as Lydia Werlau scored her first of three on the day with a goal just 2:12 into play
- The Pride defense took over in the remainder of the half, outscoring SHU 6-1 over the final 27-plus minutes of play in the first half
- Hofstra went on a 6-0 run after the Werlau goal before Cassie Cesario scored with 2:09 remaining to make it 6-2 heading into halftime
Second Half (11-4 HOF)
- Hofstra continued to pile on the goals in the second half as the Pride scored five unanswered across nearly 27 minutes of play coming out of halftime
- After scoring four in the first half, one of the nation's leaders in goals Hofstra's Alyssa Parrella scored three more in the second to up her season total to 42
- Werlau added a pair of goals late in the game for SHU, the first of which coming off a feed from Cesario before she put in an unassisted tally with 2:10 remaining
NOTES
- Werlau continues to be a go-to scorer on this team as she pumped in her third hat trick of the season
- Werlau has notched at least one point in all seven games she has played this season
- Over the last two games alone, Werlau has seven goals and eight points
- Shana Hecht continued to show well in the cage for SHU as she tallied 12 saves, just two off her season-high
- Hecht runs her double digit save streak to four straight games
- Cesario tallied two points (one goal, one assist) as she combined with Werlau to account for the Pioneer scoring on the day
- Casey Hannon tied with Hecht for the team-lead with two ground balls
- Claire McElhenny chipped in with a team-high two caused turnovers on the day
- The Pride doubled up the Pioneers in shots (32-16) as Hofstra's goalkeeper Jess Smith made eight saves on 10 shots-on-goal to limit the SHU offense all afternoon

The Pioneers conclude non-conference play next weekend with a road game at Brown. Opening draw is set for 1 PM.
