SOMERSET, NJ – With the postseason looming, the Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team is starting to peak at the right time. Sophomore goalkeeper Bella Beaton helped the Pioneers picked up two big wins last week and was recognized with Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office.
It's the first award this season for the Merrimack, NH native and the second of her career after a Rookie of the Week nod on March 2, 2020. Mount St. Mary's grab the other two awards with Alayna Pagnotta getting Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week going to Christina Hasper.
In wins over Bryant and Wagner, Beaton recorded 25 saves, seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. She started with 13 saves in the win at Bryant and produced 12 saves and five ground balls in the victory at Wagner. It was SHU's first win against the Seahawks since 2014.
SHU is home for a 1 p.m. contest against Bryant on Saturday.
