FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team's comeback was just short as it fell to LIU, 9-7, on Saturday.

After LIU got the first goal, Lydia Werlau and Emma Kittredge contributed two for the 2-1 cushion. Grace Reinold extended the lead to 3-1 on the free position with 12 seconds left in the first.
In the second quarter, the Sharks tallied three straight goals to take the lead back, 5-4, going into halftime.
LIU scored three-straight goals to take an 8-5 lead at the 11:55 mark of the fourth quarter.
Werlau and Maci Black registered two goals two minutes apart to cut the margin to one. SHU could not come up with the equalizer and the Sharks added an insurance goal with five seconds remaining.
Werlau finished with a team-high three goals and three ground balls while Reinold scored two. Claire McElhenny picked up a game-high four ground balls to earn her 100th of her career. Goalie Bella Beaton collected 11 saves.
