Pioneers capture first conference win of the season
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Maggie Araneo recorded a team-high four points behind two goals and two assists as the Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team picked up its first Northeast Conference (NEC) win of the season Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Sharks of LIU by a final score of 7-6.
Along with Araneo, teammate Emma Kittredge netted two goals, while Shea Insinga, Jamie Tanner, and Sadie Stevens tallied a goal apiece.
Junior keeper Lisa Martin picked up her second win of the spring campaign and recorded a nine-save performance between the pipes.

How it Happened:
Despite outshooting the Sharks in the first quarter, 10-4, the Pioneers headed into the second trailing the visitors by one, 2-1. A man-up goal from Araneo evened the game at 1-1, but two minutes later, LIU's Rachel Weber broke the tie with her first of the game at 5:25.
The following 15 minutes of play saw SHU explode offensively. Three different Pioneers found the back of the net against the Sharks' keepers, doubling their lead, 4-2. Araneo's two-point performance highlighted the quarter.
Kittredge increased the Pioneers' lead to three, 5-2, after she kicked off the third quarter with her second goal of the game on an assist from Nolan. Shortly after, momentum shifted in favor of the Sharks, who went on to score three straight goals to even the score at five-all with 13:09 left on the clock.
However, the Pioneers closed out regulation with a 2-1 scoring run to seal the conference victory at Campus Field.

The Pioneers resume non-conference action on Saturday, March 16 with a road showdown against the Fairfield Stags at 4PM.
