STATEN ISLAND, NY—
Maggie Araneo scored the game-winning goal just 35 seconds into overtime to secure the 11-10 road Northeast Conference victory over Wagner for the Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team, keeping the Pioneers win-streak alive with their seventh straight win.
After a three-goal run for Wagner to come from behind and take the lead late in the fourth, the Pioneers found themselves trailing by one, 10-9, with
3:24 left in the game. The Pioneers won the draw following Wagner's final goal and kept possession. As time was winding down on the shot clock, Araneo found Shae Insinga alone in front of the goal to tie the game with 1:31 left in regulation and force overtime.
Sacred Heart won the opening draw of the overtime period and wasted no time. Araneo found the back of the net with the first shot in OT to secure the Pioneers victory.

Claire Ferguson and Kelly Nolan scored back-to-back goals to open the game and jump ahead 2-0. Wagner got on the board at 2:30 to cut their deficit to one as SHU led 2-1 heading into the second frame.
Emma Kittredge scored her first of the day at 12:12 of the second to give the Pios a two-goal lead, 3-1. The Seahawks scored back-to-back goals to tie the game 3-3, but Nolan notched her second of the day for the Pios to hold a 4-3 edge heading into halftime.
Araneo scored her first of the day on a woman-up opportunity, tallying a free position goal for SHU to jump back ahead by two, 5-3. Wagner added one to cut their deficit to one, but a highlight-reel goal for Insinga gave Sacred Heart a 6-4 advantage. The Seahawks were able to score one more in the third, but SHU led 6-5 heading into the fourth.
Wagner tied the game 6-6, but Kittredge and Araneo scored back-to-back goals to jump ahead by two 8-6. After Wagner added one more, Araneo completed her hat trick to hold the two-goal lead for SHU 9-7. However, Wagner went on a run, scoring three straight goals and taking their first lead of the game, 10-9. With the Pioneers win streak on the line, Insinga was able to force the overtime with her second goal of the game, with 1:31 left in regulation.
Just like in the 2023 NEC Championship game against Wagner, Araneo called game for the Pioneers win.
Lisa Martin made nine saves in the victory and Sacred Heart outshot Wagner 30-27.
