Liljeberg Leads SHU with Four Goals in Pioneers' 15-8 Loss to Vermont

FAIRFIELD, CONN. (March 14, 2015)—Jenna Liljeberg (Wrentham, Mass.) netted a team best four goals, accounting for half of the Pioneers' total, as the Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team fell to Vermont 15-8 on Campus Field Saturday afternoon. The loss drops SHU to 2-4 for the season, while the Catamounts improve to 5-3.
Sophomore Liana Doyle (West Milford, N.J.) scored her first goal of the season with 21:57 remaining in the first half to put the Pioneers on the scoreboard and lessen the deficit to two goals. Each team notched one more before Vermont went on a streak of four goals while holding SHU scoreless for nearly 10 minutes propelling the Catamounts to an 8-2 lead 11:01 into the game.
Each team scored again before the clock ran out, including Caitlyn Delaney's (Cherry Hill, N.J.) unassisted goal with seven seconds remaining, making the score 9-5 in favor of the Catamounts at halftime.
Four minutes later, Jessica Roach, who led Vermont with five goals, netted her third goal of the game sparking a three-goal streak for Vermont spanning 17 minutes for a 13-7 lead entering the final three minutes of the game.
The Pioneers travel to La Salle next Saturday, March 21 for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
