Werlau led Pioneers with season-high four goals
FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team fell to Quinnipiac, 11-8, in its home opener on Wednesday.

Lydia Werlau netted three goals in Sacred Heart's 5-0 run to start the game. Quinnipiac would get two goals on the scoring column to end the quarter.
The Bobcats scored four unanswered goals to take a one-goal lead with 6:21 left in the second quarter before Emma Kittredge chipped the ball into the net to tie the game at six-all. With five seconds left, Werlau picked up a ground ball and found the back of the net to help the Pioneers regain the lead, 7-6, at halftime.
Quinnipiac tied the game again at the 5:37 mark in the third quarter, before Sydney Coleworthy took back the advantage thanks to an assist from Grace Reinold with 9:20 remaining in the game. Coleworthy's goal ended a 22-minute scoring drought for the Pioneers. The Bobcats responded with four goals to bring the game to its final score.
Werlau posted season-highs with four goals, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Kittredge scored two while Colesworthy and Ferguson notched one apiece.
Goalie Lisa Martin collected a career-high 16 saves while picking up four ground balls.
