Pioneers drop 14-5 decision to Lions at Campus Field
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team dropped its home opener on Saturday afternoon at Campus Field, falling to Columbia University, 14-5, in non-conference action.

Columbia jumped out to an early lead with four goals in the opening quarter, striking twice in the first five minutes before adding two more late in the period to take a 4–1 advantage. Sacred Heart answered midway through the frame when Maggie Araneo converted a free-position opportunity for the Pioneers' first goal of the afternoon. With that goal, Araneo recorded her 100th career point as a Pioneer.
The Lions extended their lead in the second quarter, opening the period with back-to-back goals to push the margin to five. Sacred Heart responded with a goal from Taylor Farace to cut the deficit to 6–2, but Columbia closed the half with two additional tallies to carry an 8–2 lead into the break.
Columbia continued to apply pressure in the third quarter, scoring three times in the opening six minutes to build an 11–2 advantage. The Pioneers showed resilience late in the period, getting goals from Jamie Tanner and Adisyn Bernhardt to trim the margin to 11–4 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the Lions added three more goals to regain control, while Sacred Heart capped its scoring when Erin Herrold found the back of the net midway through the period. Despite being outscored, the Pioneers continued to battle defensively and forced several late turnovers to limit Columbia's opportunities down the stretch.
