Pioneers Fall Short on the Road to New Haven

WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team fell 10-7 to the University of New Haven in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon at Kathy Zolad Stadium, despite a hard-fought road effort.

In the first quarter, Sacred Heart led 4-3 after Jamie Tanner scored twice and Erin Herrold added two goals, including a late one assisted by Maggie Araneo.
Momentum shifted in the second quarter as New Haven regrouped, outscoring the Pioneers 3-0 and taking an 8-4 lead into halftime.
Building on their halftime advantage, New Haven continued their strong play in the third quarter, adding two goals and holding the Pioneers scoreless despite four shot attempts. This stretched their lead to 10-4.
The Pioneers made one final push in the fourth quarter as they battled back to within four, 10-6, with 5:07 remaining in regulation. Araneo kicked off the attack with her first goal of the game at 8:28, before Tanner completed her second hat trick of the season on an unassisted tally.
With the clock ticking down, Sadie Stevens added a late goal off an assist from Araneo with 1:52 left to play, but it wasn't enough as the Pioneers fell to the Chargers, dropping to 0-3 on the young season.
